These bundled lesson plans - about three 50-minute class periods - serve as an overview to the Harlem Renaissance and an introduction to the poetry of the movement. These three lessons would work well within a larger poetry unit, during Black History Month (February), or simply between larger units.
I use these lessons during a poetry unit, where students have previously studied figurative language and other poetic devices, as well as other forms of poetry.
Included in this product are lesson plans for the three lessons, 20 biographies for students to use for the first lesson, 5 poems, and a culminating activity for students to show what they've learned about Harlem Renaissance poetry. Also included are several adaptations/variations on the activities to help you better meet your needs.
