Stuttering (Fluency) Therapy Mini Course for All Ages

Description
Welcome to the 3Es of Stuttering! We created this “introduction to stuttering” for clinicians who aren’t sure where to start with stuttering therapy.
This mini-course is designed to take the SLP and the client on a collaborative journey through each element of the stuttering experience. By the end of the course, you and your client will have developed a shared knowledge of stuttering in general, and about your client’s individual experience with stuttering. We use this shared knowledge to inform long-term treatment planning.
We save goal-setting until the end of the course, so that your client is equipped to tell you what their goals are, what types of activities are of interest to them, and why. There are so many ways to help a person who stutters, and it’s normal for SLPs to feel uncertain about if you’re doing the right thing. The good news is, we don’t have to decide alone: we can let our clients lead.
The purpose of this course is to put the client in a position where they can tell you what the right thing is, for them; and to give you a framework for creating a SMART plan built around their goals.
This curriculum is designed as a skeletal framework, to be used with both pediatric and adult clients. We encourage getting creative if you want to “spice up” any of the recommended discussions or skills practice activities!
Stuttering is challenging, for both clients and clinicians alike. We hope that this course will bring you and your client closer together, and give both of you the courage to try new things, even if you are feeling uncertain.
Welcome to the stuttering journey.
