Scenario: You have to have a substitute come in for you, but you don’t want to just give your students busy work. Solution: Your students are tasked with the job of creating interesting and descriptive stories explaining why their teacher is not in class today. This is inspired by the game Balderdash, where players try to come up with the most ridiculous story to win the game. If you choose to do so, you can have students read aloud their stories and vote on their favorite. The favorite story can win a small prize. This can be done either while the substitute is there or you can vote on the stories the next day when you return.
This is great to have on hand for Emergency Sub Plans or as a fun activity for your students to do while you are out of the classroom!
