Beginning with visual representations of numbers 5 or less are perfect ways to help students’ with beginning subitizing as well as composing & decomposing numbers! (Subitize - recognize the quantity of small groups of objects without counting them). Subitizing is an important foundational skill that prepares children for success in all future mathematics learning, and, not only helps develop students’ flexibility with numbers, it also prepares them the opportunity to develop a critical benchmark number “5”.

The “Spatial Visualization Cards 1-5 – Fall Pumpkins" resource includes 8½” X 11” Pumpkin-themed set of quick flash spatial visualization cards that include a numeral, word, ten-frames, dice, squares, and domino representations of each quantity. Also included is a printer friendly black & white set.

Strategies for implementation and sample questions to use with the students to develop a solid base for developing number sense determining student level of understanding are also included. This game is meant to be fast paced and quick so have the cards ready to use whenever you have a small time slot (like lining up and waiting!). Students enjoy sharing their thinking about what they see and how they figured it out!
