My English Language Learners need lots of practice with subject verb agreement in the present tense. Learning when to put a "s" at the end of the verb takes practice and repetition. These color coded task cards are a great way to practice. Students pair up a subject and a verb so that they agree. The anchor chart can help support their learning during independent practice.
The blue cards are aligned with the subjects: I, You, We & They
The green cards are verbs without the "s".
The purple cards are aligned with the subjects: He, She & It
The orange cards are verbs with the "s".
Students at lower English proficiency levels can practice with the cards already paired up and students at higher proficiency levels can practice with the cards mixed up and can extend the sentence beyond the subject and verb agreement. There is also a black and white version of the cards for students who are ready to move beyond the color coded cards.
Just print, cut and laminate and this activity will come in handy when teaching ELLs and other students who could use practice with subject and verb agreement!
