Introduce students to the concept of subjects and predicates, the building blocks of complete sentences, with this creative activity!
The first page contains a section of cloze notes, sentences with underlined parts for identifying subject and predicate, and a section to help them practice filling in missing sentence parts (students get to create their own subjects and predicates).
The second page contains a large phrase bank with a variety of subjects and predicates for students to identify as subjects or predicates and mix and match as they create their own silly sentences.
I always do this activity with my seventh graders at the start of the school year because their complete sentence skills are always rusty! They always have a blast coming up with goofy but grammatically correct combinations. I hope your students enjoy this useful sentence practice as much as mine do!
