Ideally, high school students would come to us writing eloquent complete sentences. Unfortunately, that's not the case, and some still need a refresher in correcting and avoiding fragments. The key to this skill is identifying subjects and their verbs.
Included in this product are six days of mini-lessons covering identifying subjects and verbs in simple sentences; identifying be verbs; identifying compound subjects, gerunds as subjects, and inferred "you" subjects in commands; correcting basic fragments; correcting explanation fragments; a review; and a 10-question quiz. As a bonus, I've included a mini-lesson on stylistic fragments, which focuses on an excerpt from The Hunger Games.
Dedicate 10-minutes a day for six days to this topic, or combine all these lessons and cover subjects, predicates, and fragments in one or two class periods.
This ZIP file includes both PDF and docx versions of these mini-lessons.
