This resource contains three fall-themed activities designed to help your students practice identifying subjects and predicates in simple sentences.
Here’s what you’ll find inside:
• I Have Who Has Game – This whole-class game contains 24 cards. To play, hand out a card to each student. (If you have fewer than 24 students, some students may be given two cards. In larger classes, students can play in pairs and discuss their card’s subject and predicate together.) The player with the first card reads his or her card aloud. The end of each card contains a clue that leads to the next card. Challenge your students to connect all the cards and reach the final card. Great for developing listening skills as well!
• Subject and Predicate Task Cards – Students read the sentence on each task card and determine the subject and predicate. Twelve task cards, recording sheets, and an answer key are provided.
• Squirrely Sentences Game – Students will have a ball as they work their way around this game board to help Sammy Squirrel reach his acorn! On his or her turn, each player will choose a game card and identify the subject or predicate of the sentence. A partner then uses the provided answer key to check answers. Correct answers earn a chance to flip a coin and move one or two spaces on the game board. Directions are printed on the game board. To prepare, simply print and laminate the game board and game cards and cut apart the cards. Add counters or fun, fall-themed erasers to use as place markers and a penny.
