These BIG 120 Subjunctive speaking task cards, will not only get your students to practice and feel more comfortable when using “El sbujuntivo” but it will help them to differentiate the subjunctive from the indicative.
If your students are like mine, then you know that once they learn the subjunctive, they start using it with everything: Preterit, Imperfect, present tense, you name it. With this activity, you will really challenge your students to use the subjunctive, only, when talking about hypothetical future, and not with everything else. Bonus Points: They will be practicing the subjunctive, as well as reviewing other concepts such as “tener + que + infinitive”, “Ir + a”, expressions of time: always, siempre, nunca, etc.

Detailed instructions and suggestions, of the several ways you can use this task cards
Cards are divided in sets of 24 (You are getting 5 different sets)
Each set has two different color cards.
Each group gets a “Tabla de puntaje” sheet. This is a scoring guide, where each student will keep track of their score.
Each set comes with an answer key, making it easy for you to differentiate. For
example, I don’t give the answer key to the majority of my students. They don’t
really need it.
Each card has a number on the lower right corner, so that you know to which
set that card belongs to.
For every four task cards with the subjunctive, there is one that is indicative.
For every eight task cards, there is one that has a happy apple on the left lower
corner. Manzana feliz = DOBLE POINTS.
Students sit in groups of two (Or three. Up to you)
Students take turns picking out cards
Student A, reads the beginning of the Sentence to Student B. If student A
understands the beginning of the sentence he gets X points. If student A is able
to form a complete sentence, with either subjunctive or indicative, he gets other
X points. Unless, he gets a card with a happy apple on it, in that case, he gets
double points in all of the categories.
While student A is going, student B keeps track of the score and makes sure
the sentence that his partner is saying, makes sense.
This activity can take anywhere from 15 min to an hour. It all dependents in how many sets each group, you want your students to do.
You can also use this as substitute plans. Or as a review for the end of the year.
