My eighth graders told me that this was their most memorable assignment of the year!
This short worksheet has ten funny unicorn "facts". Within the facts, students are asked to identify underlined clauses as either subordinate or independent. Then, students write 5 more unicorn fact complex sentences of their own. The best part is when students share their own facts in class!
I try to come up with clever or silly assessments for content that may not be the most exciting. We all know how boring worksheet or text book examples sentences can be!
I see great results with completion and retention of information when I make an assignment memorable like this!
You could even display this file on your Promethean or Smart board and complete this as a class to keep students engaged.
