Have you ever had a terrible note from a substitute and wanted your students to accept responsibility for their behavior? This "persuasive prompt" allows you to not only have students practice persuasive writing, it also allows students to reflect on their behavior. This is perfect to use the day after returning from an extended weekend to find the note that "Johnny wouldn't return to his seat" and "Jenny wouldn't stop talking" and of course, the "whole class wouldn't follow my instructions". Extend this lesson by requiring students to use the blank space for prewriting and brainstorming before writing their final essay.
**The prompt is modeled after the English 2 STAAR persuasive prompts used in Texas.
