We all know it's unavoidable to miss a few days here and there (or to have your classroom staff do the same). Being down a staff member while trying to give guidance & instructions to a substitute can be a huge challenge. Yet, maintaining student safety and quality services is so important!!
For my own class, I typically try to stick with the same couple of substitutes throughout the year so they know the students and are more familiar with how our classroom works. Having a binder set up with information about the roles & expectations for the substitute, information about Autism and the specific students in the classroom as well as answering some basic classroom facts: our schedule, where we go for our activities, who to contact for help, etc. can REALLY speed up this initial training process as well as help on days that your regular subs are unavailable.
This resource includes an editable & PDF version of a binder that's basically ready to go for September - just fill in the details about your room & students and you're all set!

Thanks & good luck in the upcoming school year!!
