Prep your students for a substitute teacher with Substitute Expectations and Incentives! Teach your students expectations for behavior and have THEM come up with what that should look like to post in the classroom. Give your substitute an incentive reward board with your choice of TWO options and you can reward your students for their great behavior!
Preparing for a Substitute teacher is never easy and prepping your students for a sub is just another additional challenge. How many times have you had to take a day off from your classroom, only to return to find a not -so-pleasant note about how poorly your students behaved? I created a Substitute Expectations presentation and activities for my students to do BEFORE we have a substitute. The presentation includes my 3 expectations for behavior when I can’t be in the classroom: Be respectful, Be helpful, and Be flexible. The presentation includes questions that I have my students answer at their student tables. Students then complete a t-chart of what each expectation “looks like” and “sounds like”. As a class, we review each groups’ t-charts and create one big anchor chart that includes the most important behaviors that they agree upon.
Incentives include a Substitute BINGO Board and a Substitute Puzzle Prize Board option! Brainstorm rewards with your class and help your students have a good day in the classroom even when you can't be there!
