I always leave plenty of classwork for my substitutes because my biggest fear (apart from accidents, behavior issues, etc.) is that my sub will run out of things to do. In my sub binder, I include these 15 time fillers for my substitutes to pull out and use if necessary. There are 5 literacy worksheets, 5 math worksheets, and 5 content (science & social studies) worksheets.
Each activity should take some time for students to complete and the concepts are basic enough that they shouldn’t need too much help from the sub.
Concepts included are:
Literacy: word families, initial blends, initial digraphs, contractions, sight words
Math: patterns, shapes, tallies, 1-10 addition facts, graphing
Content: getting ready for winter, timelines, needs vs. wants, citizenship, seasons
I hope that you find some peace of mind with these worksheets knowing that your substitute has plenty to keep your students busy and learning!
