The product contains five worksheets for subtracting fractions with unlike denominators.

Two worksheets guide students in finding a common denominator in order to subtract fractions. Each worksheet includes an example with the steps for solving. The worksheets also provide students with space to list the multiples and then rewrite each fraction with the new denominator.

Also included is a front-to-back worksheet with five word problems involving adding and subtracting fractions. The worksheet gives students space to solve, write an equation, and write an answer with a label.

A color-by-fraction activity is included in this product! Engage students with a fun coloring activity involving subtracting fractions. Students must first solve six subtraction problems using any strategy to determine the common denominator. They then can check their work by using the key to color in the picture!

Finally, an exit card is provided in this product. The students must solve four subtraction problems with unlike denominators. Then the final question is a word problem involving fractions. Students are given ample space to show their work and solve!

Add and subtract fractions with unlike denominators (including mixed numbers) by replacing given fractions with equivalent fractions in such a way as to produce an equivalent sum or difference of fractions with like denominators. For example, 2/3 + 5/4 = 8/12 + 15/12 = 23/12. (In general, 𝘒/𝘣 + 𝘀/π˜₯ = (𝘒π˜₯ + 𝘣𝘀)/𝘣π˜₯.)
