For this assignment, the students are given 20 equations involving the subtraction of integers with different signs (positive and negative). For each equation, students are to draw in a counters model and represent the problem on a number line before recording the final answer.
A colored answer key is provided (not including the number lines as different teachers may use different strategies for this). On the answer key, yellow counters represent positive integers and red counters represent negative integers.
This activity can be used as independent practice, partner work, homework, review, assessment, small group lesson, reteach, bell work, etc.
