Have fun teaching subtraction with this interactive activity! Students will make Subtraction Buddies to help "take" things away. Have students design their own paper bag buddies with construction paper, googly eyes, yarn, etc. When finished, they can choose different manipulatives (dinosaurs, bears, different counters) and work out subtraction problems by having their Subtraction Buddies "eat" the manipulatives! This is a great visual to have students see the objects physically taken away.
You can also try cutting a hole where the mouth is so that when the subtraction buddy eats something, it will go into their hand that is in the puppet!
