### Description

This is a set of systematic, sequential worksheets to reinforce identifying, discriminating, and applying mental strategies to subtract basic facts to 20 with first and second graders. These materials are appropriate for use with a whole class, small group, or individual students. With the exception of the word problem worksheets, they are designed for either guided or independent practice. These sets of subtraction fact strategy worksheets are cumulative, based on students learning the previous strategies. The following strategies are covered: Subtract Zero, Subtract All, Count Down/ Back, Count Up To, Doubles, Make 10, Bridge With 10, Subtract 10, Subtract 9, and Subtract 8. This resource correlates with my subtraction strategy anchor wall charts and flashcards.

Beginning with the second strategy, Subtract All, these worksheets are included in each
strategy set:
• Identifying equations associated with the current strategy (color)
• Discriminating between learned strategies (color)
• Given two strategies, sort equations (cut and glue)
• Given two sets of sorted equations, write the strategy
• Apply learned strategies to solve equations (2 worksheets)
• Apply learned strategies to solve word problems
• Assessments (forms A and B), cumulative for strategies learned

Please note: The methods and materials for introducing each strategy are not included in this resource. It is also assumed you have taught addition fact mental strategies and the commutative property, i.e. flip-flop or turn around equations.Check out this Subtraction Fact Mental Strategy Count Up To Free Sample before purchasing!

Fluently add and subtract within 20 using mental strategies. By end of Grade 2, know from memory all sums of two one-digit numbers.
Add and subtract within 20, demonstrating fluency for addition and subtraction within 10. Use strategies such as counting on; making ten (e.g., 8 + 6 = 8 + 2 + 4 = 10 + 4 = 14); decomposing a number leading to a ten (e.g., 13 - 4 = 13 - 3 - 1 = 10 - 1 = 9); using the relationship between addition and subtraction (e.g., knowing that 8 + 4 = 12, one knows 12 - 8 = 4); and creating equivalent but easier or known sums (e.g., adding 6 + 7 by creating the known equivalent 6 + 6 + 1 = 12 + 1 = 13).
