The Subtraction Fluency Cards Sort is a quick, simple way for students to review and master subtraction from 10 facts.
Groups/pairs/individual students lay out the number cards in sequence and place the number sentences in a line underneath correct answers. In my room, students may use any subtraction strategies to find the answers (drawing, Rekenreks, ten frames, manipulatives, etc.). I like to change it up on them every now and then so they continually review their "bag of tricks" to solve math problems!
I usually print out 10 sets of this sort, laminate, and organize them myself. It's mundane prep work, but such a time-savor during the school year when you have 10 or 15 minutes for quick, quiet, engaged fact review.
It also makes a great, year-long math center activity!
**NOTE: To break down fluency review, I print off a duplicate set of 0-5 number cards and have students begin by practicing subtraction within 5.
