FREEBIE Subtraction game How many are hiding is a fun game students can play to practice decomposing numbers.
You pick the number you want students to decompose. For example, if you want students to practice decomposing the number, only put out 5 kids.
Laminate the winter board and game pieces. Cut out the game pieces close to the picture so there is a tiny boarder around the picture.
How to play:
1. Player 1 closes their eyes and player 2 hides some/none of the game pieces under the igloo and remaining on the winter board.
2. Player 1 opens their eyes and guesses how many are hiding. Player 1 has to count the number of bears they see and subtract that number from the set.
3. Both players looks under the cave and count to see how many kids are hiding.
4. Keep playing! Students take turns being player 1 and player 2.
--Players can record how many are hiding and not hiding on a recording sheet.
