Subtraction game - Give a dog a bone! a CCSS aligned math game for 1st and 2nd grade centers
Give a dog a bone! is a great game to help first and second graders learn subtraction up to 20 and will help reinforce number sense. It works well during math centers or any small group activity time. Directions on how to play, a game board and all the necessary playing cards are included in the pack.
The problems are tiered, beginning with single digit subtraction within 10 and moves up though double digit subtraction through 20. There is a total of 32 pages of problem cards pages, or 192 problem cards in all. Each subtraction “problem card” gives the answer in red, under the problem. That way the reader will know if the player gives the correct answer or not. It also reinforces learning for all players.
This game aligns with first and second grade Common Core State Standards (CCSS aligned):
1.OA.6. Add and subtract within 20, demonstrating fluency for addition and subtraction within 10
2.OA.2. Fluently add and subtract within 20 using mental strategies. By end of Grade 2, know from memory all sums of two one-digit numbers.
