While many students are capable of solving regrouping equations, they often struggle with explaining their reasoning. This game allows students to analyze a problem, determine whether they will need to regroup to solve it, and then explain how they came to their conclusion.
It can be played as a scoot game or simply be used as a task card activity. I personally do not require students to solve the problem, as our focus at this time is to simply state our understanding of what “regrouping” really is. However, feel free to have students solve the problems as well if this is what works best for your class!
I have included both two digit and three digit task cards to allow for differentiation.
