Subtraction Smash is a friends of ten game that assists students in developing the concept of addition and subtraction.
How to Play:
(Make sure to laminate before playing)
1. Students roll ten balls of play dough and place them into each of the squares inside the tens frame.
2. Then the student rolls the die.
3. The student attendees the number on the die and smashes that amount. For example: If they roll a 6, then they need to smash 6 balls of play dough.
4. The student then uses a whiteboard marker to write a number sentence. For example 10 take away 6 leaves 4.
Instead of using a dice, students can pull out a digit card (Numbers 0-10) from a tub, in order to take away higher numbers than 6.
