Do your students solve 7 - 6 on their fingers? Do they cringe at 15 - 8 or skip over subtracting with teens? This mega-pack of subtraction fluency mini-posters for mini-lessons, practice and assessments is for you!
Fluent subtraction is a common core standard for first and second graders, yet third and fourth graders and even beyond still struggle. Use this as whole class lessons, small group, guided group, intervention lessons, special education settings or for older learners who lack fluency.
This pack includes 10 strategy lessons of:
Subtract 1, 2, and 0 (two levels- numbers <10 and >10)
Subtract All (two levels- numbers <10 and >10)
Subtract Neighbor Numbers
Subtract Double Parts
Subtract Parts of 10
Subtract All of a Teen's Ones
Subtract Close to All of a Teen's Ones
Subtract 10 from a Teen
Subtract 9 from a Teen
Counting Up vs. Counting Back
and 3 fact family mini-posters and a fact family game (and flashcards).
In addition you get practice pages (for some of the harder strategies, more than one!), sorts, games and a growing flashcard set as strategies are taught. Also included is a student data notebook graph to use to show growth as well as a student interview pre/post sheet to make sure students are improving in the subtraction strategies they draw from.
30 question assessments weave in each successive strategy and can be timed or untimed. Students can then graph results to show their personal best. Answer keys are included.
These mini-lessons can be used in a whole class setting, small groups, guided groups, by mentors or volunteers, in centers, in special education settings, for younger or older learners, and can be based on need as determined by the student interview sheet or teacher observation/recommendation.
This product was created by an interventionist who desperately needed a scaffolded subtraction set for younger and older learners alike. I hope you enjoy!
