Description
2nd grade students are expected to add and subtract to 1000 using place value strategies. This unit takes the first step toward that goal by subtracting 2-digit numbers within 100 with and without regrouping or unbundling.

Students will use concrete, hands-on materials including linking cubes and place value disks. Additionally, students will use the representational model of drawing dots on a place value chart to add. Students will relate these models to a written method.
This set of 5 lesson plans creates a cohesive unit that will help your 2nd graders to build a solid foundation in subtraction with and without regrouping so that your students will feel confident when moving into larger numbers in the future.
