This lesson shows students how their lives are directly affected by their choices. Habits determine how well students do in school, how their days are organized, and even how people perceive them. I changed up questions found in Covey's The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens to more closely resemble the habits of middle school students and added a check-off quadrant worksheet. Students answer 20 questions read orally in class. Their results on the worksheet show them how their habits are influencing their days AND what changes they can make for greater success.
A double-sided analysis worksheet (including a 2 paragraph write-up) follows this activity. This analysis will help students discover habits that are negatively impacting their work responsibilities and goals. The short write-up is their plan to stay organized. This lesson can be divided into two class hours (the 4 quadrant w/20 questions one hour and the analysis/writing worksheet the next). If you prefer, the analysis/writing worksheet can be assigned as homework.
