There are two documents included: a packet I gave my fifth graders giving them everything they needed to know to succeed (much of it may not be applicable to you, but can give you ideas), and a short handout with a list of tips for success. These are appropriate for the first day or week of school.
It is a good guide for discussion of good study habits and what is expected of the fifth graders academically. We go over this document together and discuss each part. This is one way that I start to set the tone for the entire year. I emphasize good study habits, punctuality and a good attitude in this handout.
The ideas in this document may be applicable to 4th and 6th graders, too.
