Students will work in groups of four to complete each problem contained within the set. Once each student has arrived at the correct answer, they will add up all their answers to determine one final sum recorded in the middle of the set (that is checked by the teacher). Once groups have arrived at a correct sum, they may proceed to the next set. This can easily become a competition to determine which group can correctly answer the most questions in a class period.
This activity covers all four operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division) of numbers in scientific notation.
