In this combo, I have combined two of my most popular units—Summarization Unit #1 and Summarization Unit #2. Each unit has descriptions throughout for how to implement the activities into your classroom. I have used these activities for a few years in my room with great success. Have fun, and let me know how it goes!
Summarization Unit #1
Summarization can be one of the toughest things for our students to grasp. Use this unit to help you introduce the concept of Summarization using "Summarizing Strips." I have created Summarizing Strips for 4 popular Henry and Mudge books, including "Henry and Mudge and the Starry Night," one of the stories in the 2nd Grade Scott Foresman Reading Street Basal. For more information on how to implement this activity in your classroom, go to my blog Sweeties in Second (http://sweetiesinsecond.blogspot.com).
Summarization Unit #2
Included in this Unit are several activities to help you teach Summarization:
-Graphic Organizer to use with ANY story with two types of writing lines
-Hobbies Writing Activity
-Favorite Show or Movie Writing Activity
-Take-Home Project for Oral Summaries, complete with a rubric for scoring
