    Description

Teach your students to summarize a fictional piece of literature by using the "Somebody Wanted But So Then" strategy. This bundle of activities includes many practice opportunities! Students will read and summarize FOURTEEN fictional pieces.

Begin by using the 54-slide PowerPoint to introduce the concept. In the first half of the PowerPoint, students will summarize Three Billy Goats Gruff and two other passages. The latter half addresses what a writer should do when the Somebody Wanted But So Then strategy doesn't quite fall into place. In this section, students will summarize The Emperor's New Clothes and an original passage. The PowerPoint file includes a companion handout that is available in both printable and digital formats. (Also, you have my permission to convert this PowerPoint to Google Slides, if you wish.)

Next, use the Readers' Theater Script and Summarizing Activity. After reading the 8-page script, students will write a summary on the foldable that is included.

Six additional practice passages and a poster complete the resources in this bundle. (Please note that the passages in the printable worksheet packet and the passages in the digital worksheet packet are IDENTICAL! Both formats are included so that you can choose the format that best meets the needs of your students.)

This bundle also includes a 5-day lesson plan document where I outline how I would use these materials over the course of one week. Answer keys are included for each resource.

Please check out the PREVIEWS of each individual resource to see what is in this bundle!
