With this file that includes a mentor summary, you too can say good-bye to book summaries that are either too long or too short! Provide students with the scaffolding they need in order to include the essentials while letting them know it IS okay to leave some things out!
Students will read a book/short-story/non-fiction narrative and refer to a literary elements page (of definitions/essential questions) to guide their note-taking, notate the story structure of their text, and use those notes in the provided paragraph frame to construct their summary. Also included is a SAMPLE summary for students to analyze and "mark up."
