Writing a summary can be difficult for students. To summarize effectively students need to be able to pull the main idea along with other important details. In this common core aligned graphic organizer, students learn how to determine the main idea and develop important categories from the text. They then use the main idea to start their summary and turn the categories into sentences to further develop the summary. It teaches them to analyze the text to determine the most important information. This graphic organizer works well with any informative text.
