Contains three pages.
Page One: A summary, setting, and theme graphic organizer. After students read a story, they will complete the organizer. This creates a consistent structure and prepares students to summarize independently.
Page Two: Students complete the plot mountain using the summary words. When I introduce summary and plot- I always play the "Mission Impossible" theme song to set the mood.
Page Three: This is a important detail versus detail flash card. While doing whole group you can ask students if something from the story is a detail or is important. Students will show the appropriate side of the card. This can help determine what goes into a good summary. Once printed, fold in half to create the card.
These same graphic organizers can be used for writing too! Students start with the summary graphic organizer then build their story based on this structure.
