Summarizing is a crucial comprehension skill for our students, but can be very difficult for our little ones to understand. This packet is designed to help teach this skill and provide scaffolding for students just starting to learn to summarize. It includes a dinosaur theme to provide students with informational text exposure.

The packet also includes a research project component, printables, and 5 ELA centers. Below is a more detailed description of the unit’s contents.

Unit contents:
-Summarizing Group Activity with printables for fiction and nonfiction stories
-Can, Have, Are printable for dinosaurs and paleontologists
-Summaryentologists Name Badges for digging up dinosaur details when summarizing
-Research Project: Teacher instructions, dinosaur quest printable, dino research recording form to assist with composing the research paper, research writing paper, and favorite dinosaur fact writing prompt, dinosaur choice cards for students
-Dino Digraphs center with word sort recording form
-Paleontologist Pairs (a noun and verb sort) with sentence recording form
-Hunting Homophones with recording form
-Stegosaurus Synonyms and ABC order recording form
-Cretaceous Compounds with compound word flapbook printable
-7 Dinosaur vocabulary word posters and vocabulary mini book
-2 Venn diagram printables with large Venn diagram printables
