These 3 short passages and criteria tables help your students think strategically when choosing the best summary.

Short Passages & Criteria Tables

To Use: Students read the short passage, then read four summaries of the passage. Along with each summary is a criteria table. Students fill out the criteria table to determine whether the summary is "weak" or "strong." Then they select the strongest summary. A key is included.

Variety of Genres

This is a sampler of my Summary Analysis Bundle. It includes one expository passage, one fiction passage, and one biography passage. The criteria tables are slightly different according to the genre.

Perfect for Test Prep.

I love to use these passages around testing season. Even students who excel at writing their own summaries might have difficulty choosing the "best" summary out of a collection. This resource breaks the process down and helps students internalize the structure of a strong summary.
