This is an easy way for kids to outline a story they have read in order to write a summary. My first graders currently use this organizer while completing their own summaries.
The boxes on the side allow them to check off the key parts of a summary as they work their way down the page. This organizer also helps students learn how to wrap up a paragraph by writing a conclusion.
Note: I do not tell them to use the phrases "In the beginning", "In the middle", or "At the end" in their writing. They are told to use that as a guide to fill in their organizer.
This summary organizer is referenced in my Wonders Grade 1 Writing Extensions for Unit 5 product.
