This Summer Core Word and Basic Concepts “print and go” interactive notebook for autism and special education is a fun way to practice core words, yes/no, sorting, tracing, matching words to pictures, matching words to words, same/different (qualitative concepts) identifying more/less (quantitative concepts), as well as fine motor skills- cutting and pasting.
Core words include actions, “put on,” “see,” “play,” “eat,” and “go.”
Core words are a popular and research based approach to teaching vocabulary for students with special needs who have limited speech or vocabulary. Core words are the high-frequency words we use most often in everyday life. Core words are applicable in more environments, activities, and situations than subject specific nouns.
Print the pages in black and white or color depending on what is best suitable for your students. You can even print a combination of both, with the choices in color and the main pages in black and white.
Students can work on snipping or cutting the worksheet page and choices, glue the worksheet page into a spiral notebook, and then match the appropriate pictures under the flaps. Unlike a regular worksheet, this notebook can be used for review, as staff can ask the questions on the notebook pages and then students can answer and lift the flap to check for accuracy.
This summer interactive notebook is also a neat way to create a “portfolio” of what the students were working on for the summer.
This interactive notebook was made to be used alongside the “Summer Core Word “Build a Sentence” and “Summer Emergent Readers”
Summer Core Vocabulary Adapted Books and Emergent Readers
