As an alternative to summer packets that focus on review of skills in isolation, I have created this summer bucket list to include activities that will focus on students exploring their environment and applying skills they have learned to novel situations.
Some of the examples include:
*Calculate how much it will cost for you and your family to go to the movies.Don't forget snacks
* Find the area of their backyard
* Looking for land forms in your local area
* Learn how to do string games
These activities engage students' minds as well as requiring them to recall skills they learned over the year.
Additionally many activities involve reading:
* Read under a tree
* Read at the beach
* Read about a place you want to visit
I really feel this is a great way to help prevent summer slide while avoiding worksheets.
