Fill up those last days of the year with something that will set your students up for success during the summer months. This mini-unit takes students through
-a writing assignment describing how their summers usually go
-selecting a goal for the summer that will be useful to them (not necessarily school-related)
-planning how they will accomplish the goal using questions similar to the SMART goals outline
-writing an optional final essay on their summer plan
This would be great if you are going to teach the same students again next year or if your students have summer assignments. I teach in a rural area and I find this to be great for helping students discover a way to make some money or helping them complete a project related to their own hobbies. The goals they could set are endless! I love seeing students learn the value of making a plan.
