Parents, teachers, and OT's can use this resource to address a child's visual and auditory processing skills.
Designed by an occupational therapist, SUMMER DETECTIVE presents 8 activities that focus on a child's ability to "look" and "listen". It is for all children, pre-k through first grade, though older kids benefit too.
Visual and auditory foundation skills are key to achieving success in school.
Detective themed summer activities in this resource have kids visually scanning their outdoor environments and paying attention to details. Auditory activities encourage children to listen for specific sounds. Greater attention to the details of sight and sound is a step toward better academics!
Looking and Listening activities include 4 looking (visual processing), 1 looking and listening (visual/auditory), and 3 listening (auditory processing) tasks.
The 4 Looking summertime activities include:
1- Gather the Evidence!
2- Bug Hunt
3- Counting Colors
4- Missing Petals
The 1 Looking/Listening summertime activity is:
1- I Spy!
The 3 Listening summertime activities are:
1- Stolen Flowers
2- Detective School
3- Find the Thief!
These activities can be adapted to suit all children. Variations for activities provide practice with math counting skills. Also, this resource may be beneficial for use as an adjunct to speech therapy/receptive language treatment.
