Do you use problem of the day? These are ready to print & cut! These math journal prompts provide you with a daily word problem for your first grade students to solve independently. These meet standard 1.OA.1 and involve change, compare, and group situations. They are summer-themed (beach, camping, fishing, etc...) and appropriate for independent or guided practice. Use these for the end of the year to review word problems and get your students ready for second grade! These could also be fun as a summer math journal component or used for summer school.
To help me teach the variety of addition & subtraction situations, I use these anchor charts.

If your students forget to (or just dislike!) showing their work, click to view these anchor charts that remind them what a complete answer to a word problem looks like. This saved me from saying "show your thinking" every time a student said they were finished!
