Product Description
You never know what unplanned surprises the morning of the first day of school holds for you, making step 1 of this easy-to-understand activity a great option for first day bellwork. Continue the activity throughout the first days of school to begin assessing students' ability to follow multi-step directions and hold conversations with their peers.

SAVE 20% when you purchase this resource as part of the First Week Back To School Classroom Essentials Bundle.

Step 1: Questionnaire
The Summer Memories Glyph Q&A Sheet requires minimal guidance, allows you to get a first impression of your students and gives them something friendly to focus on as they get familiar with their new desk and take a peek around the classroom.

Step 2: Coloring and Illustration
Later in the day, students will need to refer to the answers on their Q&A sheet when completing their Summer Memories Glyph Coloring. You will have a great opportunity to assess each student’s ability to follow multi-step directions during this portion of the activity.

Step 3: Conversation
When coloring is complete, students can share their picture with a partner and talk about how the picture represents their summer using the sentence frames as needed. Since this is a first week activity, I prefer to assign partners so no one feels panicked or left out when picking partners.

You will have the opportunity to assess conversation skills at this point in the activity. Take a moment to focus on how often students point to their final art project, how often they make eye contact with their partner and how much detail they add to their conversation beyond simply using the sentence frames.
