WRITING TO ENTERTAIN
*note this is the same unit as my Winter Olympic Author's Purpose and Writing adapted for the Summer Olympic Games.
Summer Olympics: Author's Purpose and Writing is a great way to have students identify different purposes for writing and write themselves. This packet includes Olympic themed writing assignments that have them writing to persuade, to inform, and to entertain! Each writing assignment has a planning sheet and drafting page. A blank page for writing a final draft is also included.
Feel free to use these with your classes as you see fit! Here are a few ideas to help you get started!
--Author’s Purpose: Use this to introduce Author’s Purpose and remind them that when we write we are authors too!
--Olympic Persuasive Writing: (Writing to Persuade) A planning sheet and drafting page are included. Modeling how to transfer information from the planning sheet to their draft can prove helpful!
--Olympic Sports Report: (Writing to Inform) A planning sheet and drafting page are included.
--An Epic Olympic Story: (Writing to Entertain) A planning sheet and drafting page are included.
