Summer is such a great time for students go wild with reading. Unfortunately, many summer assignments require students do much more than that. They often ask for baseball cards of literary characters, projects, powerpoints, or essays. Is that going to foster a love for reading? Probably not. And we all know how important developing our students into lifelong readers is.
This summer reading assignment is simple. All it does is ask students to read TWO novels during the summer (We hope they read more). The list of novels on the document all come from student recommendations. At the end of the year, I had students provide me with a list of their favorite books that got them excited about reading.
I took their recommendations and created this handout, which provides simple to follow instructions and a handy list of high interest novels sepearted by genres.
At best, the list is a great starting point for book recommendations and for book purchases for the upcoming school year.
