This Summer Reading Breakout was created for intermediate students. My goals for creating this breakout were to:
*review library skills with students at the end of the school year
*generate excitement about reading over the upcoming summer break
*encourage teamwork in classes and demonstrating problem solving skills during a time when student engagement is needed
This PowerPoint presentation (24 slides) includes all materials that you need to customize the breakout to your media center. Slides 2-6 in the PowerPoint are for you to present the scenario and activity to students. The next 5 slides are an overview of how the breakout should run, as well as directions for how to prepare the materials and the media center for the activity. The remaining slides contain materials, such as clues, hint cards and a reflection worksheet, for you to print and use in the activity. You will need to purchase a word locks, key locks, date locks, number locks, directional locks, hasps, UV lights, invisible ink pens, pencil pouches and small boxes.
I hope that you and your students have fun reviewing books and library skills with this breakout!
