Just a little something I'm doing with my own kiddos this summer and thought I'd share! After each book, your kids can answer the questions that cover all five elements of a story before drawing their favorite part. At the end of the summer, we're going to bind all of their "book reports" together for a keepsake. For younger children who are not yet reading independently, see if they can still summarize the story for you before completing their drawing.
After every five books read, a prize is awarded. You can fill that part in with whatever works for you! Every child is "into" different things. Prize ideas include a free pass from doing chores, a pass for an extra hour of screen time, a trip to Dairy Queen, cash award, a balloon, candy, breakfast/lunch/or dinner at their favorite restaurant, a T-shirt, a new book, a new toy, tickets to a special event, a trip to a fun park, etc. Use your imagination!
