Looking for a way to strengthen your English program and keep your students' reading skills sharp over the summer? More and more schools are integrating a summer reading assignment in their English program.
Here is a suggested reading list for incoming sophomores, including both fiction and non-fiction works. These books are age-appropriate but diverse and challenging. The reading list tells students each book's title, author, genre, premise, and any content advisories, linking to Common Sense Media when available. The files in this resource come in both PDF and Word form, and customization is permitted. Please note, this list does include two Christian texts, one a work of fiction, and one a memoir about missionaries. I teach in a parochial school so this kind of reading is encouraged. Again, customization is permitted if you need to change or remove these titles.
It also includes a list of 8 suggested project options for summer reading that move beyond the basic book report. This is a great way to introduce differentiation into your classroom before the school year has even begun!
***Please note: This resource is not designed for use in AP classes.
