As a teacher you know how much knowledge your students lose over those summer months. In fact, it has been proven that students lose 1- 3 months worth of reading skills over this break. Crazy right?
This packet is a simple, fun, ad engaging way to encourage your students to read throughout the summer. This is a Summer Reading Passport. Students are encouraged to fill out their "passport" as they read their way through several genres and magazines. They get choice in what to read. Students end by reflecting on their reading with a few simple exit forms including a "Travel Blog."
I encourage you to make this a required part of your curriculum. It may be beneficial to use this and work across grades if students are leaving your class for another.
So, encourage your students to read, but make them accountable! This passport is a fun student friendly activity that you will be able to use from year to year.
