Excite your students about reading this summer with this beachy writing craft and summer reading program! I use the activity during the last weeks of school to prepare my kids for reading over the summer months. Students will create a goal and a cute sand pail craft to go with it. Use the planning sheet to help your students develop their goal and plan, and then they can write about it and make the sand pail. I hang the sand pails in the hallway and then send them home on the last day of school.
A few days before the last day, I share the summer reading program with my students. I have provided two different versions of the calendar: one where you set the goal for your students (15 minutes a day,5 days a week), or students can set their own goals. I have also included blank calendars for next year, although I will be updating the file every year to include the most current dates. I ask my students to bring the calendars back to me in the fall for a prize. There are eight different parent letters to choose from, depending on your students' reading goals and your preference on when they return the calendars.
Lastly, this product includes three different summer reading fun activities: two scavenger hunt/bingo activities and a 100 book challenge.
