Summer Packet | Summer Review Kit | Summer Activities | End of the Year
Avoid the summer slide with meaningful reading, writing, and maker activities. This Summer Review Kit includes eight week’s worth of materials
designed to keep students’ skills sharp over the summer. No skill and drill worksheets – this summer packet makes kids think! And NO prep for you! Simply copy and send home with students at the end of the year.
This Activity Pack also works well as an engaging filler during those last hectic days of the year, the first few weeks of school, or any time you need thematic reading, writing, or maker work for students.
This Summer Review Packet includes:
READING / MAKER ACTIVITIES (Weeks 1, 3, 5, and 7)
This section contains a series of original reading passages called, “What’s to Know About…”. Each passage has two versions – a high version (page numbers 1A – 2A) intended for fifth – sixth grade level readers and a lower version (pages 1B – 2B) for third – fourth grade readers. Perfect for differentiating! The passages include links to websites for students to learn more about each topic.
Each week includes five days of activities:
On Days 1 - 4, students read part of a passage and then spend time being a “Maker.” The maker activities ask students to use their creative thinking skills to make something based on the reading passage. Students use materials found around their homes or outside to make their projects.
On Day 5, students write a summary of the work completed on Days 1 - 4. Several sheets of themed writing pages are included for this task each week.
WRITING PRACTICE ACTIVITIES (Weeks 2, 4, 6, and 8)
Five days of activities are included per week. Each day students read a short passage, record their ideas on a graphic organizer, and then complete a themed piece. Practices feature all four types of writing. Several prompts include places for drawing visuals to go along with students’ writing. An extra sheet of lined writing paper is included at the end of each day.
In addition, a Parent Letter is enclosed to help explain the activities. Includes two versions that can be edited using PowerPoint. (You must have the PowerPoint program to use this feature.)
